Building a thriving, and more sustainable future

Who I am

I’m Susanna Sielo, a candidate for Espoo City Council and the Western Uusimaa County Council, running with The Greens. I hold an M.Sc. in Economics and Business Administration and work as a management consultant, specializing in technology, data, and AI. I help businesses and public organizations leverage data-driven decision-making and identify strategic growth opportunities through emerging technologies.

Born in Helsinki in 1995, I moved to Espoo for the first time in 2017 while studying at Aalto University School of Business, where I earned my Master’s degree in strategy. Today, I live in Tapiola, surrounded by Espoo’s beautiful nature.

Outside of work and politics, I enjoy cultural events such as theatre, as well as outdoor activities and fitness classes. I also share my home with my spouse and Lexi, a one-and-a-half-year-old rescue dog.

My values and interests

My core values are justice, equality, sustainability, and animal welfare. I believe that society should be built on equal opportunities, where decisions are guided by facts, long-term responsibility, and a commitment to both human and environmental well-being.

As Vice Chair of the Finnish Greens for Science and Technology (Viite), I advocate for future-oriented policies based on scientific research to create a better society for all.

Why I’m running

My vision is to make Espoo the most sustainable, inclusive, and thriving city in Finland—one where economic growth and sustainability go hand in hand, public services actually work, education is high-quality, and every resident feels safe and valued.

I will bring science-based solutions to public decision-making, use my business background to introduce best practices for efficient and human-oriented services, and ensure that we move forward—not backward—in building a better society and a healthier planet.

My key focus areas

A thriving, green economy

Espoo must be Europe’s leading city for sustainable business, innovation, and the green transition. This means:

  • Attracting green tech startups, circular economy companies, and impact-driven businesses by providing incentives and fostering a business-friendly ecosystem.
  • Reducing bureaucracy and simplifying processes to support entrepreneurship and investment.
  • Strengthening cooperation between universities and companies to boost research-driven innovation.
  • Expanding Espoo’s role as a testbed for green technologies, such as sustainable urban planning and energy-efficient construction.
  • Faster residence permit processes and better support for skilled workers, advocating for national policies that reduce delays for work-based immigration.

More accessible health and social services

Healthcare must be efficient, accessible, and patient-centered. My priorities include:

  • Faster healthcare access – ensuring patients receive treatment without excessive waiting times.
  • More investment in mental health and addiction services – providing easy access to care without unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Enhancing digital healthcare solutions – improving online appointment booking, remote consultations, AI-assisted diagnostics, and streamlining patient management for more efficient care.
  • Recognition of foreign degrees and skills – pushing for fairer qualification recognition so skilled professionals can enter the job market more easily.
  • Improving healthcare worker retention by promoting better management practices, using technology to reduce administrative burdens, and increasing permanent staff to improve patient care.

Safety for everyone

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their city. That means:

  • Ending bullying and violence in schools, on the streets, and at home through early intervention and multi-professional cooperation.
  • Tackling online harassment and digital security risks, ensuring the city’s digital infrastructure is safe and resilient.
  • Stronger anti-discrimination policies – taking active measures to combat racial discrimination, xenophobia, and employment bias.
  • Safer transport solutions – reducing car dependency and implementing better regulations for e-scooters to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety.
The elections – what, when, and how to vote

In 2025, Finland will hold two key elections that shape the future of cities and public services:
